Services

RELIC provides a comprehensive, coordinated support system designed to ensure that students can focus on their studies while navigating international mobility with confidence. Services are jointly organised across the consortium and complemented by local support at each host institution.

These services complement academic training and prepare graduates for careers in heritage institutions, NGOs, public administration, international organisations, or further academic research.

Welcome and Orientation

All students begin the programme with a joint introduction event at the University of Groningen, offering academic, practical, and social orientation to RELIC and its international structure.

At the start of each mobility period, host institutions provide:

  • institutional orientation sessions or introduction weeks;

  • guidance on academic expectations, administrative procedures, and local culture.

Across all semesters, students receive support with:

  • registration and enrolment;

  • visa and residence requirements;

  • insurance;

  • housing guidance;

  • language support.

Visa and Residence Support

RELIC provides structured assistance for visa and residence procedures at each mobility destination, including:

  • Pre-arrival visa guidance, with country-specific instructions, timelines, and document checklists;

  • Visa liaison officers at host institutions to support residence permits and local registration;

  • Official documentation issued by the Consortium to support visa applications.

Students must register with the relevant Internationalisation Office (or equivalent) at each host institution upon arrival, in line with local procedures and data protection requirements.

Insurance Coverage

The RELIC Consortium takes out international medical insurance on behalf of all enrolled students for the entire duration of the programme, in line with Erasmus+ regulations.

Insurance coverage includes:

  • medical treatment and hospitalisation;

  • accidents;

  • repatriation, evacuation, and medical transfer;

  • civil liability.

Community, Integration, and Peer Support

To strengthen academic and social integration, RELIC actively promotes:

  • team-building activities;

  • networking events;

  • peer-mentoring between cohorts.

These initiatives help students build an international learning community and foster long-term professional and personal connections.

Academic Guidance and Mentoring

Each RELIC student benefits from continuous academic support throughout the programme:

  • Programme Mentor
    Provides cross-institutional academic guidance and continuity across mobility periods.

  • Local Academic Tutor
    Appointed at each host institution and responsible for course registration, academic integration, and the resolution of local academic matters.

This dual mentoring structure ensures both consistency across the programme and local academic support at each study location.

Career Development and Employability

RELIC supports students’ transition to professional life through:

  • collaboration with internship providers across partner countries;

  • career guidance workshops;
    networking activities with professionals and institutions;

engagement with RELIC alumni, where available.

Wellbeing, Health, and Psychological Support

Students have access to the wellbeing and support services available to regularly enrolled students at each host institution.

In particular, Internationalisation Offices function as student support hubs, offering:

  • psychological support, including access to professional counsellors or psychologists (in person or remotely);

  • medical guidance and referral to local health services;

  • coordination of student support and follow-up during mobility periods.

An introduction session at the beginning of each stay explains available services and support mechanisms.

Access to Student Services and Facilities

RELIC students enjoy the same rights and access as regularly enrolled students at each host institution, including:

  • library services and digital resources;

  • ICT and learning facilities;

  • academic advising and administrative support;

  • student services related to teaching, assessment, and progression.

Access conditions, opening hours, and digital platforms are explained during orientation and made available through institutional systems.

Language and Cultural Support

To support linguistic and cultural integration, host Institutions offer (depending on availability and under the same conditions as for local and international students):

  • Academic English support, including writing workshops and conversation groups;

  • Academic Spanish support, including writing workshops and tutorials;

  • Host-country language courses, such as Dutch, Malayalam, Polish, or Greek;

  • Cultural workshops introducing local heritage, customs, and intercultural communication practices.

Conditions for participation in language courses are communicated clearly in advance.

Housing and Accommodation Guidance

Students are responsible for securing their own accommodation during each mobility period. However, host institutions provide housing guidance and advisory support, including:

  • pre-arrival housing information;

  • indicative rental costs;

  • practical advice on local housing markets and contracts;

  • recommendations for short-term accommodation for initial arrival, where feasible.
